Department of Psychology (PG)

The Teresian College offers M.Sc in Psychology a two years (Four semesters) course. The course aims to train students, advance theory and to create knowledge and promote intellectual growth. It helps in addressing real-world problems.

The department has qualified faculty from wide areas of expertise, ICT classrooms and well developed laboratory. We provide the students with excellent and rigorous training in Psychology both theoretically and practically. Students are given practical exposure through involving in community service and different outreach programmes. We invite experts and conduct special lecturers, seminars and workshops for the benefit of the students and motivate students to involve in research projects, to publish and present papers in the conferences.

Objectives:

  • To provide the students with excellent and rigorous training in Psychology both theoretically and practically.
  • To build deep expertise in the respective domain as well as a broad vision of the field.
  • To create a generation of excellent psychologists who can contribute to the society as a whole.

Course outcome

After completing course of Msc psychology, one can opt to work in any of the following fields:

Pursuing MPhil or PhD: Completion of this course serves as a foundation to enrol into MPhil or PhD courses

Counselling psychology: One can be employed as counselling psychologist in college counselling Centers, academic settings, community mental health Centers, school counsellors.

Teaching:After clearing UGC NET or K SET one can opt for teaching at under graduate or post graduate level

Research:If the focus is on research , there are career prospects in non- governmental organisations and government organisations such as DRDO where one can work as a researcher . Qualifying in UGC NET or K SET would be mandatory.

Industrial/Organizational psychology: industrial psychology has career opportunities for psychologists in the field of Human Resource and psychological testing

Community counselling: One can provide counselling services for local community centres

The Post-Graduate Department of Psychology (M.Sc) was established in the year  2017 at the Teresian College. The two years (four semesters) course is affiliated to the University of Mysore. The Teresian College is located in a royal and cultural city Mysuru earned it the sobriquet Cultural Capital of Karnataka. Mysuru is noted for its heritage structures and palaces.
