  • Established in 1963, the year of launch of the college, Sr Angel Mary, the first Principal and Head of the Department ensured the steady growth.
  • Meera Bedi and Ms. Suraiya Jabeen were instrumental in enriching the quality in terms of Optional English – critical appreciation and Dramatics.
  • Firmina and Sr.Francine (Gold medalist, UoM) principals in different periods were from the department.
  • A.S.Dasan, Faculty in the 80’s and 90’s introduced interactive learning, critical literacy, learning across disciplines and special lecture series to facilitate students to excel with a cutting edge.
  • PG Department of English was launched in August 2012.

Literature is a mirror of life reflecting imaginative input and poetic view of life as its content. By facilitating learning of English language and literatures in English, our department focuses on transforming learners, so that they become empowered citizens endowed with skills for varied competencies and with values to outreach to build a humane society.

The multicultural ambience prevailing in the college campus provides enough space to explore into learning across disciplines with cross-cultural approaches, encouraging critical thinking and multidimensional worldviews.

Current curricula include focus on concerns such as ecology, gender sensitization, leadership skills, and professional ethics. A team of talented Faculty blessed with varied charisms ensure that students get ample opportunities to develop their innovative, creative, and critical potentials. 

A considerable number among our alumni are well-placed in varied professions – public administration, teaching, media, technical writing, and religious congregational governance and leadership.
